Overview
The Carolina Swim Series consists of five open water swim events - all in the greater Wilmington, NC area.
Three of the events are ocean swim races; Stoked To Go Out and Pier-to-Pier, both at Wrightsville Beach, and Swim CB at Carolina Beach.
Swim the Loop (and it's shorter option - Motts Channel ) are also at Wrightsville Beach and take place in portions of the intracoastal waterway system and connecting channels.
Racin' the Basin is staged at "The Basin" at Ft. Fisher (Kure Beach) - the shallow and protected body of water that sits between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean.

Important information for people born in 1978
For Carolina Swim Series scoring, a participants age will be determined by his or her age as of 12/31/18 - similar to USA Triathlon rules. For all of 2018, you basically are whatever age you will be on New Years Eve of 2018.
For Carolina Swim Series awards - since we will be awarding series awards for Top 3 Men & Top 3 Women and also for Top 3 Masters Men and Top 3 Masters Women, everyone is either under 40 for Overall awards or 40 & over for Masters Overall awards. Consequently, this only affects people born in 1978.
So, for all of you born sometime in 1978 - guess what? For CSS scoring - you're already 40! (cruel system).
You will be competing in the Masters overall category for series awards.
NOTE: You may in fact be competing in the 30-39 age group at the first or second swim of the year, but for series awards scoring only, you will be considered 40.
Series Scoring and Current Standings
Carolina Swim Series – Scoring System
- To be eligible for year-end series awards, competitors must participate in a minimum of three Carolina Swim Series races.
- Competitors participating in more than three races will use their three highest scoring races for series scoring.
- The CSS will use a very simple points system for series scoring to determine the series award winners.
- For each CSS race, the following points table will be used for series scoring. Points will be allocated for the top 20 male finishers and top 20 female finishers.

Series Awards
Highly distinctive awards will be presented at the year-end awards party following Pier-to-Pier on October 20th at our official Host Resort, The Blockade Runner.
These awards will be announced early in 2018.
